Additional Comments:

Goals a-plenty in this game, with Janne Lehti scoring 5+3, Michael Barron 4+2, Neil Shea 2+5 and even John Heneghan (“Rambo” on defence) with 1+2! Apparently, according to Ronnie Cee in the match programme of 15/11/86, two of Janne’s shots hit Alan Gregory (Chiefs’ netminder) so hard in the chest that he had to receive medical attention both times!

Lions’ fourth (unassisted) goal, scored at 11:05, was significant in two ways: It was Michael Barron’s hat-trick and it was also Lions’ 1,000th goal of all time!

Lions switched netminder at 54:39, after Chris Leggatt had scored Lions’ 13th goal, allowing back-up Jamie Elliott to take over from Paul McGarvie. Jamie only faced 2 shots.

The game had gone by with relatively few penalties until the last nine minutes of the final period, when Kevin Musther of the Chiefs went on a one-man penalty spree. He got 2-mins for Tripping at 51:02, followed by 2-mins for Roughing plus 2-mins for Unsportsmanlike Conduct AND 2-mins Bench Minor all at 53:51. He topped things off at 56:45 with two 10-mins Misconduct penalties!

However, they weren’t to be the last penalties of the game as Lions’ John Heneghan received 2-mins for Slashing at 59:59!

Officials were Franklin, Wiseman and Samson.
