Additional Comments: Our first league encounter with the Raiders of the 88/89 season but it wasn’t a game to remember as the score didn’t go our way. The Romford programme was quite informative, reminding those who weren’t already reminding Raiders fans that Erskine Douglas, Geof Williams, Micky Allard, Gary Bayliss, Russ Jackson, Nigel Auguste, Glen Price and recent signing Charlie Mendl were all ex-Lions! It also mentioned how we’d finished 2nd in the South East section of the Autumn Trophy, just one point behind Medway Bears and just as impressively we’d beaten the mighty Cardiff Devils 11-8. That game had seen goalie Ian Cade play his first match for the Lions, during which he’d faced 60 shots from the Devils and had received the Man of the Match award. Anyway, back to this night’s match against Romford… Adam Anderson had matched Romford imports Bryan Swystun and Gord Jeffrey by scoring 2+2 (Adam would one day ice for the Lions). For a Romford match there were surprisingly few penalties, the only bit of roughing involving Reid Williams and Doug McEwen at 31:14, when both players received 2-mins for Unnecessary Roughing. Referee was Bain, Linesmen were Kenny and an unnamed stripey. |
