Additional Comments: We had beaten Romford on our four previous meetings with them. When the Lions last met the Raiders, on 15th October 1990, our victory over them took us to 5th place in the division, some 3 or 4 places above Romford. Following that win Gordon Jeffrey resumed active duty in place of Brent Bywater and they had an immediate improval in form. This night’s match was to be no exception, with Raiders not only beating us but miraculously managing to stay completely penalty-free throughout the whole 60 minutes! This match was to be Lee Whale’s last for the club. From what I remember he and his wife were moving back to their original home town of Southampton. Referee was Eccles, Linesmen were Blair and Feehan. |
