Additional Comments:

The first fifteen minutes of this game saw an invigorated Lions side that was more than capable of taking points from Milton Keynes. However, a problem with the plexi saw the players returning back to the changing rooms earlier than planned and the Lions appeared to lose momentum.

The extra minutes were added to the start of the second period and it was between 15:31 and 19:57 that Milton Keynes Thunder took advantage of their visitors, gaining a 3-0 lead, the second goal (scored by Tom Hurley) being short-handed.

Hurley scored again at 21:34 then Paul O’Neill got the Lions on the game sheet by scoring unassisted at 27:49. Despite 16 shots, Milton Keynes were unable to get past netminder Stefan Nubert and the Lions had the satisfaction of drawing the second period 1-1.

Penalty minutes had been creeping up throughout the game, but as patience began to wear thin the final period saw more than double the amount awarded in the previous forty minutes. Thunder were awarded a penalty shot after the Lions’ attempts to foil a break-away situation fell foul of referee Tottman. Stefan Nubert foiled the shot but with less than 10 minutes on the clock Glen Jackson was given a chance in goal.Tempers flared at 58:59 with Milton Keynes’ Ollie Nabbs receiving a match penalty for fighting, while Lions’ Paul O’Neill received 2-mins for checking for behind plus a 10-mins misconduct penalty. The final period had seen Milton Keynes score two power play goals and one short-handed effort, boosting their unreachable scoreline to 7-1.

Manager Deryk Beeson had this to say of the Lions: “Even though we lost on Sunday it was not through a lack of effort on behalf of the lads. They really were up for the game throughout and I was bitterly disappointed for them and proud at the end to be their manager.”

Referee was Tottman, Linesmen were Earl and Watt.
