Additional Comments:

Basingstoke Buffalo were a force to be reckoned with when the two sides last met in September 2005. This clash was no exeption, Dean Phillimore knocking a scrappy goal past Stefan Nubert with just 01:16 on the clock.

Although Nubert succeeded in making several impressive saves his luck ran out in the 7th minute when no fewer than 3 Basingstoke goals hit the back of the net. Phillimore knocked up a hat-trick with goals just 10 seconds apart, while a change of line gave Ian Parsons the opportunity to score at 07:54.

A late burst of determination from the Lee Valley Lions saw Matyas Vas coming close to putting his mark on the score sheet, but Basingstoke’s female netminder, Vicky Robbins, foiled his shot with a solid save.

The second period began and Basingstoke furthered their dominance of the game with a goal from Simon Beere and a fourth from Dean Phillimore. With a comfortable lead of 6-0 the Buffalo bench relieved Vicky Robbins from goal-tending duties, replacing her at 31:47 with Craig Astill.

Just when it looked like the Lions would be shut-out for a second period Ben Osborne hit home at 39:05, assists going to Rob Courtman and youngster Michael Jacobs. Nonetheless, Lions were still trailing 1-6 to Basingstoke Buffalo, the team currently sitting at third position in the league table.

Just 50 seconds into the third period Will Francis fired a blue-line slapshot past Stefan Nubert, assisted by Simon Beere. Beere then scored a well-crafted goal at 45:27, the assists going to Leigh Baker and Mark Jordan.

A minor penalty against Dan Sampson at 46:49 gave Basingstoke the upper hand. Jeff Bond capitalised on the Lions’ misfortune, a goalmouth scramble allowing him to tap a powerplay goal into the net at 47:22. A further 3 Buffalo goals followed in quick succession, the last being a short-handed and unassisted effort from Tom Pope. The Lee Valley Lions were outclassed throughout the game and the score at the final buzzer was 12-1 to Basingstoke Buffalo.

Referee was Wargitsch, Linesman was Beck.
