Where are they now? Barry Smith in Sweden.

Fans of the original Lions might be interested to know that import Barry Smith went on to an impressive coaching career and he is currently based at Swedish side, Modo. Mikael Uhlin, who runs a site about the former London Lions, has kindly sent me an article about Barry that featured in a Swedish magazine, together with an English translation. You can find it in the Team History section, here.

Thanks from Jordan’s Grandfather, Denis

Saturday’s opening game of the season was dedicated to the memory of Jordan Jones and his Grandfather, Denis Jones, has written to express his thanks:

“Myself and the family would like to thank everybody at Lee Valley Lions for the wonderful tribute that you gave for Jordan, also for the support that you have given us in our sad loss.  I will of course be coming to support the team for home games whenever I can.”

Likely to be signing…

Added to the players already announced so far we should soon be securing the services of ex-Lions captain, Nick Alley, together with Max Gerstain (from Chelmsford) and Adrian Woodyard.  I hope to be able to confirm these names shortly.

New season’s signings so far

News of the 2013/14 season signings is beginning to arrive. In particular, we welcome Ben Osborne back to the Den. Ben was with the Lions in their first season back (2005/06) before moving to Chelmsford. It’s great to have Ben back, together with some familiar faces…

George Alley

RIP Jordan Jones

It is with great sadness that I announce that Lions’ player, Jordan Jones, passed away yesterday (16 July). Jordan was the eldest of five children and his grandfather, Dennis Jones, played a big part in both his upbringing and introducing him to ice hockey. Dennis was a short-track speed skating coach and started taking Jordan skating when he was only three years old. Jordan loved hockey very much and the family have been touched by people’s kind words.

Jordan was in Cyprus when he died, so his funeral arrangements have not yet been made. The family have said, however, that everyone who knew Jordan will be welcome to come along. As soon as I’ve been forwarded the details I shall post them on the site.

On behalf of everyone involved with Lee Valley Lions, we send our sincere condolences to Jordan’s family, friends and girlfriend.
