Additional Comments:

The match programme of 15/11/86 contained the following words from Mike Grafton on this game:

“Those who went to Kirkcaldy saw the big part that Neil Shea had to play in the win, despite the fact he was injured and didn’t move from the bench all night! His coaching qualities haven’t ended there, he has taken over the on-ice reins from Richie (Doran), helping out most of the players in particular parts of the game that they are weak at…”

Neil Shead had aggravated an injury at Crowtree the previous night, so this game was won even though the Lions had only two imports playing. The results of both the weekend’s matches meant the Lions were top of the league table since January 1985.

The match programme of 15/11/86 also contained Ronnie Cee’s “Ronnie’s Roundabouts” column, where he said:

“I must say how well everything has gone at the club ever since Mike and Neil joined us… four straight wins, 48 goals scored and only 28 conceded. These figures have taken us to the top of our division, and not just because we have played more games than the other teams, we have dropped less points than any team except Peterborough so far…

“…Although Neil was unable to play last Sunday he was certainly worth every penny we are paying him as he ran the bench superbly, calling the lines, giving advice to players, even sticking his two-penn’orth in with the Linesmen and Referee and he certainly played his part in a great win…

“…Just before I leave the subject of last weekend I must mention… little Andy Leggatt who at Kirkcaldy was nothing short of sensational. He gave everything into every challenge and got two vital goals just when they were needed. God, he even got a Match penalty – Tony Hand Mark II!”

Officials were Tyson, Birrell and Greig.
