Additional Comments: You would have thought that scoring 9 goals would mean you’d won, not lost by 11 goals! However, Cleveland had the services of Tim Cranston and Kevin Conway, who were both in the top 4 point scorers of the league. Still, the Lions matched the Bombers for Power Play goals, with 2 each (Darrin Zinger scoring both for the Lions at 02:47 (first goal of the game) and 06:22). The Bombers finished on a final flounce, their 20th goal being Short-Handed at 56:17. Both teams iced both their netminders, although I suspect the reasons for this were very different! Liem Le Huyen took over from Russ Jackson at 51:37 and Simon Burns (who would one day ice for the Lions, on loan from Peterborough, and would be a real boon to the squad) took over from Terry (“he’s fat, he’s round, he bounces on the ground”) Ward at 47:14. The programme included a couple of paragraphs by Supporters’ Club Chairman, Mike Cook, about a meeting held to discuss the (mis)fortunes of the Lions on 25th January 1990. 82 Lions fans turned up, with apologies from 19 others. There had been a “to the point” and “very sensible” talk by Darrin Zinger and £1,000 had been pledged to the team by fans, in order to try and improve the dire situation at the club. Referee was Powell, Linesmen were Cloutman and Ross. |
