Additional Comments: Fresh from our away win against Romford the previous week it was good to see it wasn’t just a fluke as we beat them at home too! We scored three Power Play goals and one Short-Handed goal, whereas Romford scored two Short-Handed goals but only one Power Play! This was a typical game against Romford in terms of penalties with the majority of penalties being for interference, roughing or unsportsmanlike conduct. Maybe it was a rough check that caused one of the Clock End sections of plexi-glass to cave in on the fans, causing one particular clock-ender (who I remember as Bradley) to comment that the rink seemed to be built from sticklebricks! The Romford squad included the usual number of ex-Lions – Lennox McCatty (who lined up in the Lions’ very first game, against Oxford University on 4th February 1984), Geoff ‘Streaky’ Williams (who remained at the time Lions’ longest serving Captain), Steve Condren, Phil Gosbee, Jamie Elliott, Glen Price and Tari Suwari. Referee was Powell, Linesmen were Chilton and Williams. |
