Additional Comments: Sadly the Lions didn’t end the season on a high note, losing by 10 goals to Telford. Having said that, we were an import down, missing Mark Harding. Mike Fafard had an excellent game for the Lions, scoring 4+3, as did Darrin Zinger (who I remember as a defenceman) with 3+2! However, the team were just blown away by the brilliance of Gerard Waslen, who either scored or assisted in 14 of the 18 goals. Other than Mark Salisbury and Mark Hazlehurst clashing at 23:35 (both receiving 2-mins for High Sticks) the game was quiet. The Lions received 2-mins at 11:24 for having too many men on the ice, which allowed the Tigers’ 4th goal at 12:03, an unassisted effort by Todd Bidner (the only Power Play goal of the game). Supporters’ Club Chairman, Mike Cook, said in the programme that he felt the 89/90 season was “the most horrendous in the Lions’ short history.” Little did he know of what was to come in future seasons, eh?! The programme also noted that programme editor( and Mike’s daughter), Julie Cook, was due to have her second child during the summer break and that Clockender Peter Tingey would be getting married. The Supporters’ Club Trophy for the 89/90 season was awarded to Russ Jackson and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association were presented with a cheque for £762.52 on behalf of the Supporters’ Club. Referee was Taylor, Linesmen were Eccles and Jackson. |
