Additional Comments: It was unusual to score a win over Telford, so this match was good for the team and the fans. In all we’d played them 22 times previously but had won only three times! Telford Tigers changed their netminder at the end of the first period, from Simon Burns to John Wolfe, but by this time we were already 4-1 up. It was just as well an early lead had already been established as the Tigers suddenly came to life in the final period, out-scoring the Lions by 5 goals to 3. We called a Time-Out after the Tigers’ 6th goal, at 47:27, which was scored just 15 seconds after their 5th goal! Luckily, though, our early lead kept us in the frame and we clinched the game, scoring a further two goals to their one. Our 9th goal had been scored at 47:58, meaning that between the two teams 3 goals had been scored within the 47th minute, in fact within the space of 46 seconds!!! An excellent game, sadly witnessed by only 262 people. No wonder the club was always in such financial difficulties. The team was bolstered by the arrival of a new coach, in the shape of Glenn Goldstein who was from New York and had previously played for Boston University and was assistant coach at Syosset High School! Referee was Batchelder, the single Linesman was Ford. |
