Additional Comments: The first home game in the 93/94 season saw a trio of new imports – Al Brown, Andrew Dickson and Craig de Blois (“Pies” to some!) – who had played together previously at Colgate University in New York. Godsend Darcy Cahill made up the import quota and little did we know how the Colgate trio would eventually ditch the Lions with no notice and put us right in the ****, but that’s a story for another Match Report! We also started the season with the excellent Simon Wren between the pipes. From what I recall he was loaned to us from Peterborough and he’d had experience with the British team (although he was still a relative youngster), so we were quite chuffed with this acquisition. Darren Rosenfeld, Gary Organ, Michael Michael (no typo!) and Nicky Braithwaite rose up from the LV Whalers, but mostly kept the bench warm. In this, Lions’ first League game of the season, the team made a very slow start. Young players Howard Wiggan and Darren Rosenfeld scored an assist each and Gary McLoughlin scored 3 assists. Guildford whacked a hideous 5 Power Play goals past the Lions and Ryan Campbell also had a high-scoring game with 1+8. The Lions were doing some strange things in the second period as Howard Wiggan, Al Brown and Steve James all managed to get themselves penalties for Delaying the Game, but at separate times and without any assistance from any Guildford players! Referee was McLaughlin, Linesmen were Norcott and Crouch. |
