2021-22 fixtures announced

The EIHA and NIHL are pleased to publish the 21/22 season schedule for the South 2 division.

As previously announced, there will be twelve teams in the league playing one home and one away game against each other, with the regular season starting September 18th.

The teams will also contest the Wilkinson Cup, with the qualification round having an East group (Chelmsford, Haringey, Invicta, Lee Valley, Peterborough, Streatham) and a West group (Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Guildford, Solent). The Cup games are not stand-alone fixtures, the first meeting between the teams will count towards qualification standings.

The top two sides from each group will qualify for the semi finals in mid December. These will be East 1 v West 2, West 1 v East 2 on a two-legged basis. The Wilkinson Cup Final is over two legs in mid January 2022.

As previously announced, the Lions will play our home games at Cambridge Ice Arena due to the refurbishment works at Lee Valley Ice Centre.

Our season will kick off on Sunday 19th September, with our first game at our adopted home of Cambridge Ice Arena against Peterborough.

You can see our fixtures in the below graphic.

Lions confirm trio of forwards

The Lee Valley Lions have rounded out the weekend by confirming a trio of forwards for the 2021-22 season – Ben Margerison, Joe Bradley and Shane Bojenko.

Returning from last season is Ben Margerison, who joined the Lions in 2019-20 after several years out of the game, scoring two goals and four assists for six points in league and cup action.

Both of his goals came in one game against local rivals Haringey, when he scored two goals within nine seconds of each other.

A newcomer to the club is Joe Bradley, who played for Invicta at U18 level for the last three years, and now steps up to senior hockey with the Lions.

Finally, Shane Bojenko returns to the club after nine years away.

Shane played two seasons with the Lions between 2010 and 2012, before playing five seasons of university hockey for Southampton Spitfires – he is now back in Lions colours for the upcoming campaign.

The Lions roster now numbers 12 players, with more to be announced shortly.
